I choose me over us.

Description

Weekly therapy group sessions for people seeking technique, strength and support to leave a relationship that breaks your heart full of love. They are in a marriage, committed relationship or enmeshed with their ex. You have become the therapist who provides them a soft landing, listening ear, or the distraction they need to make their bad situation bearable. You know they need you, they say they want you, they beg you to stay, but they have not chosen you and this relationship is going nowhere. Let me support you to heal, choose yourself and let them go.

This is a judgement-free zone. We are all side-pieces, spouses with no marriages, stars that only shine at night. We will cry together, laugh together, use humor, hold one another accountable and draw strength from the group. Ultimately we will examine and understand how we ended up in that sticky situation, heal, forgive ourselves and do better next time.

LGBTQ friendly group for adults age 29 and above. Intake session before allowed to join group.

Group Therapist

Rolake (pronounced raw-lah-keh) Odetoyinbo is licensed to provide mental health counseling in New York and New Jersey. She is passionate about immigrant acculturation, life transitions, LGBTQIA, and women’s issues. Her work as an AIDS activist, global health advocate and teacher has given her the unique opportunity to work sensitively and non-judgmentally across cultures, religion, identities, and abilities.

Rolake approaches therapy from a feminist perspective. She supports her clients as they examine and understand the roles they play in their family, workplace, and social systems. She helps clients to make the changes that they desire by holding up the mirror and echoing back their words so they can see and hear themselves.

Coming from the non-profit world, Rolake adopts a rights based and client centered approach to her work. Her clients include people with anxiety, childhood trauma, relationship problems, and people living with chronic illnesses like HIV infection and sickle-cell anemia. She offers great support for people in nontraditional relationships and partnerships.

Rolake only provides tele-therapy at this time. She sees clients aged 18 and older and does not provide tele-therapy for crisis situations.
